On the upcoming Friday, January 13th, Igor will take part in a 24 hours race in Dubai for the very first time in his career. He will start with the Olimp Racing by Lukas Motorsport team which represents Poland in a prestigious Porsche Supercup series on a daily basis which is raced along with the Formula 1.

Before the beginning of the race Igor underlines that Dubai 24H is a very important start and his official debut in in the long-distance races. „I have already taken part in several races and tests of Porsche 911 GT3. When asked about his emotions before the race, he responds: „there’s a huge stress as every time when I sit before the steering wheel. I am quite calm though as I am highly motivated, as allegedly we have the best team in the class that I am starting. Also, I can hope for valuable advices from Robert Kubica and Robert Lukas who represent the higher class”.

The Dubai race is also an inauguration of the 2017 season for Igor who will begin a full Porsche Supercup series and will represent the greatest Polish team made up by Wieslaw Lukas.

Igor however is not resigning from Formula. He is still looking for a potential sponsor who would finance his test driving in Formula 1, especially that there are more and more starts proposals. Igor additionally underlines that taking part in different kinds of races helps him develop his driving skills.

The upcoming weekend, September 23-25, Igor will drive the 911 on Hungaroring in Mogyoród, a few kilometers North-West from Budapest.

Igor Walilko will start his second season in the Euroformula Open series this weekend with the aim to fight for the Championship in 2016. Adding to the challenge will be the Pole’s decision to change teams just before he opening races in Estoril.

The 18-year-old from Zielona Gora was amongst the front runners during all three official preseason tests after a successful rookie campaign last year. However, despite that, he wasn’t able to find a suitable agreement for 2016 with his team. Therefore, with less than two weeks before the opening round, Walilko decided to change squads. This year he’ll race for the vastly experienced Fortec Motorsports team – former winners of the Formula Renault 3.5 series – in a British squad build solely around him in EFO.

This weekend Igor and his new team will embark on the first of the eight rounds of Euroformula Open, which takes place in Estoril, near Portugal’s capital, Lisbon. Former Formula 1 and MotoGP Grand Prix circuit is famous for its long start and finish straight, fast, sweeping corners and several elevation changes with strong winds usually adding to the challenge. Last year in Estoril Walilko scored two podiums in the Rookies Trophy, with a first and a third.

Thursday will see all drivers taking part in three test sessions with over five hours of track time in total followed by just two 30-minute practice sessions on Friday. The two races will start at 2:15 PM local time (3:15 CET) on the Saturday and 12:15 (1:15) on Sunday. Each will last 19 laps. Both races will be broadcast live in Poland.

Igor Walilko aims for victory in Euroformula Open 2016

After his impressive debut season last year, Polish racing driver Igor Walilko will return to Euroformula Open in 2016 with the Italian RP Motorsport team aiming for victory in the overall standings.

The 18-year-old from Zielona Gora, who last year claimed 11 ‘Rookie Trophy’ podiums from 16 races, and two more in the overall classification, finished his first season in the Formula 3 car in tenth overall. Despite being a driver in demand, Walilko decided to continue with the Italian RP Motorsport team, the series reigning champions, aiming to fight for the overall victory in 2016. The Pole made his intentions clear by posting the fastest time in the season ending tests in Barcelona in December before signing a new contract with the squad in early January.

The Euroformula Open 2016 calendar consists of eight rounds, with five on circuits currently used by Formula One, including Monza in Italy and Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, where Walilko scored his two podium finishes last year. There will be two races per round, plus three pre-season two-day test sessions.

EFO drivers use Formula 3 cars with Dallara chassis, Toyota engines and Michelin tyres. At 490kg, the cars have 235hp, go from zero to 100km/h in 2,6 seconds and reach top speeds of around 250km/h. The RP Motorsport team, from Gropparello near Piacenza in Italy, are the reigning EFO champions who back in 2007 opened the doors to an international racing career for the current F1 star, Australian Daniel Ricciardo.

Igor Walilko started his racing career in karting at the age of eight, winning the Polish Championship before reaching the very top of the European and World Championship. In 2014 the Pole switched from karting to single seaters, racing in the German ADAC Masters series before moving to EFO last year.

Igor will compete in complete season of Euroformula 3 Open. We’ll able to see it thanks to Polsat Sport tv, which declared Live broadcast. Just to remind, Igor on last tests were making results on a TOP1, TOP2 level both on a dry and wet track. Such performance is a great forecast. In 2015 significant changes are going to be made in technical regulations of a series, gear rack will be replaced by gear pads, and Michelin will deliver brand new soft tires. Thanks to such changes the bolide will be more similar to FIA F3.  As we know, Walilko is only 17 thereby youngest polish driver in history, who’s going to drive a F3 bolide in full season.

Igor Walilko:

"I’m very happy that I convinced RP team about my person – what’s more, because we still don’t have out budget ready for 100%. I would like to thank one more time my parents and my engineer from ADAC WIto van Kuijeren for great lessons. I will do my best, to achieve such results as on the test."

On the rain-drenched Sachsenring Igor Waliłko scored a sensational race after starting from fifth field winning second place after Mikkel Jensen, who secured his championship ADAC Formel Masters title. 17-year-old Waliłko was for the first time on the podium.

Because of the appalling conditions the race started behind a Safety Car. After three laps, the green flag appeared. Waliłko overtook Tim Zimmermann and attacked the third in line Dennis Marshall. This battle lasted for 6 laps. Igor rival toured the outside of the first corner. Then Zimmermann took Marschalls fourth place. At a 11th corner Kim Luis Schram and Nico Menzel collided and safety car returned on track.

Race has been restarted after 9 laps. Igor Waliłko overtook Joel Eriksson, again attacking from the outside of the first corner. On the next lap Zimmermann left behind Eriksson. Igor has been decorated by the former series champion, Marvin Kirchhofer, now a star of GP3 Series.

Pole Position for Walilko on Nurnburgring

Igor Walilko:

"I’ve been for the first time in my life on Nurburgring – I hadn’t any chance to driven a single lap there before. The more I’m satisfied by my results."

"Both time attack and tests went the way we know from ages – we look for the best setups, which are never optimal during qualify, that’s why we mostly land on last positions. What’s next I have to get thru almost from the very end to reach any points – while trying not to damage my bolide or not to be damaged by any other participant. And so during weekend we become faster – especially on final race, where most of the drivers don’t have any more tires – that’s the point where skills are coming to the front not the engine power – well maybe with 2 exceptions..:) That’s why during my last race I tried to be the first on start on Sunday. And finally it happened, even though I was for the first time on Nurnburgring and it was raining. In 3rd and last race we put all one’s eggs in one basket, my bolide setup was to start and defend myself on first corner before the “fly jets” from Neuhauser and ran as far I can. I managed to do it, and after 3 laps I had over 300m over 2nd driver. Unfortunately Safety Car went on track and we had to change our tactics on fly – after restart I managed to escape and hoped that I will win it or at least make it to the podium. But marshals made their decision by giving me a drive thru penalty, because of standing 7cm after the left line on a starting grid, which had completely no matter for the race. Even most of my competitors could understand why I received such a punishment for that. What’s more, most of drivers in my row stood exactly the same, but It was only me, who received the penalty."

"Sachsenring and Hockenheim are one of my favorite tracks, where I already had an opportunity to have my tests done, so I’m pretty sure I will get good results and will try to fight for my first podium. I don’t want to think about what happened, I’m more focused what’s next and to achieve my best result in the whole season."

Rafal Walilko:

"Igor is still very young and relatively have a little experience in bolide racing, but ADAC Formel Masters is exactly for such drivers – the more I’m surprised and disgusted in such radical decision of marshals. I don’t know what’s the point of so called “Manual Steering”, which never ends in a good way – but I don’t want comment it anymore. From last two races we have a little better equipment, even though it is not the car we can fight with the top – nevertheless Igor has changed during this season – his very calm, he performs all the tasks in 100%  which he discuss with his engineer. It’s just 2 more races till the end of the season, we’ll see how it goes – but one thing is sure, apart of the penalties or not, everybody who has at least little knowledge of motorsports, knows that Igor is becoming a complete driver. Till that weekend we thought about the German F4 – but, we will have to seriously verify our plans."

Igor Walilko:

“I’m pretty happy with the result from my last event in Slovakia, because I “did” 2 great races. Even though, qualify wasn’t best, but in first race I finally was able to compete with others on the same level."

"We took 5th place in 2 first races, which is as far my best result in this series. I’m especially pleased with the timing I had because it shows how huge potential we have. In 3rd race my position on podium was practically sure – right after the start I was faster than drivers before me. Unfortunately on 2nd lap I had to “run” trying to avoid the crash with a driver who’s been blocking me, and in this moment my front right wheel has been damaged by Neuhauser driver which resulted in suspension and brakes complete failure. Going any further wasn’t possible anymore. Even our vehicles are still behind the top, we’re starting to catch on with used tires."

"I hope, that on next event it will be even better – although I haven’t been to Nurburgring and we will have just 4 practice sessions.”

"3rd race was absolutely better, the car has been better and I was able to achieve some of the fastest times in the race. Unfortunately neutralization destroyed my plans and after restart instead of getting thru I had to defend myself against faster cars. I finished the race as 9th, but considering our technical abilities it wasn’t so bad after all."

"Now I’m trying to focus on next tests and event in Slovenia, I will try to use my experience and will do my best to achieve better result. Zielona Góra citizen remains still without a specific engagement for the 2014 season. It seems that a WallraV Racing Club member will settle permanently in our western neighbors as a test driver and maybe even get a full-time driver’s seat.

Igor Walilko:

„Tests with JBR were absolutely pleasant experience – the team itself is very friendly. During the ride I was able to verify my skills which I gained during last autumn with Mucke Motorsport and I’m very satisfied by it.”

Igor Walilko on his way to Formula!

Igor Walilko belongs to the group of best polish drivers, who successfully develops his karting career at the world class level. WallraV Racing club member who has began his motorsport adventure over 10years ago. As a child he supported his father Rafael Walilko in motorcycle racing.

“Always when my dad had a race, me and my mom joined him on Friday after we got back from preschool. I will never forget those fast motorcycles, smell of petrol, running mechanics, happiness and also often tears of people who love this sport – I always knew what I will do in my life”.

In his first two karting events 16year old driver took the podium twice, beating his older and more experienced colleagues. After first season he finished “Mlodzik 60” class in Poland on 4th place, which let him to start abroad, first in Italy and later in Belgium. There next to Max Verstappen he has reached a title of 2nd runner-up in KF5 category. What’s more, in the very same season he won Polish Cup in ROK Junior category.

In 2010 Walilko continued his career abroad, where he always was in the top positions during the German Championship Series (DJKM). Also taking a part of Karting World Championship WSK series was a successful debut for him, where name Walilko appeared very often in the top. In the same year Igor become a Polish Champion in KF3 category, while starting just in 4 out of 5 events! – He won almost all races, in worst case he finished 2nd. After a short brake, young driver from Zielona Gora came back to racing  and in his first event at the beginning of 2012 Igor finished with great result of 7th place in qualify session for over 100 drivers in prestigious Winter Cup in Lonato Italy. Igor’s great condition took him to Lewis Hamilton karting racing team – which resulted in great 7th place in World Cup qualifications in Spanish Zuera and win of Tropheo delle Industrie in Italy.

In season 2013 Walilko was once again nominated to a national karting team and took part in every event within Euro and World Championships series, almost always qualified to a strict final. However, his primary task was to prepare himself for future start in single-seaters. In 2nd half of 2013 Formula ADAC, Formula Renault 2.0 and Abarth tests took place. It’s a first step that a driver should take after finishing his karting career to be able to race in higher series of single-seaters as F3, GP3, GP2, F1 or GT cars.

Currently the talks with the sponsors and teams are in progress about the next tests and eventual participation of Igor in next year ADAC Masters Formula. This particular series are one of the most challenging thru so called “small formulas” and taking under consideration number of German drivers in Formula 1 it seems quite obvious to be the best way up for talented driver from Poland.

Recently, one of the most successful and biggest German teams in history is interested in Igor – Mucke Motorsport. Frank Lucke himself noticed Igor. The head team engineer, who was one of the first working with talented Sebastian Vettel. Vettel, after his won of 4th F1 World Champion title, he repeatedly thanked for trust and first steps in single-seaters.  Walilko had an opportunity to test for the first time in his life a GT class Porsche Carrera GT3 of Robert Lukas from Forch Racing. Results he got would let him to be in the top 10 of German Porsche Carrera Cup, where top drivers from the Porsche Supercup start before F1.

“I am so happy that despite the often unfavorable weather conditions I could gain some experience in single-seaters and GT-class car. I also hope that I will be able to start next season in some full-race series. I must admit that my goal is very to be in very demanding single-seaters, but driving a racing Porsche is also fun.”
